SPECIAL VISITOR!
Guess who passed by the Cosmodome last October 3rd? The Canadian astronaut Dave Williams. As Chris Hadfield or Julie Payette, he also completed a mission in space aboard the Space Shuttle!
The astronaut Dave Williams came by the Cosmodome last October 3rd for a corporate event. Here his is with the poster that commemorates his flight back in 2007 during the STS-118 mission. This poster is a part of our temporary exhibition which features the 16 missions in which our Canadian astronauts participated, including Dr. Williams.
It was aboard the American Space Shuttle that mission STS-118 took place. The acronym STS means “Space Transportation System”, referencing the space shuttle! During that mission, the six members of the crew, including the Canadian astronaut Dave Williams, were responsible to add two components to the ISS and to bring fresh supplies.
After 13 days in orbit around the Earth aboard the Endeavour Space Shuttle, the six astronauts landed at the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Did you know that we have a replica of that same Space Shuttle model in our training room at the Cosmodome?
There exists a special connection between Dr. Williams and the Cosmodôme…Turns out that his signature is the one found at the bottom of the certificate handed to all trainees during the closing ceremony of our Atlantis and Endeavour space camps!
